Dr Mrudula Dadhe Joshi excels in music both at an academic as well as at a performing level. Besides being a Ph. D in music, she has learnt the nuances of her art from stalwarts such as Gurus Pt Gajanan Buva Joshi, Pt S K Abhyankar Buva, Pt Madhukar Buva Joshi and Dr Asha Parasnis Joshi.
Starting in 1984, Dr Joshi has given thousands of light music performances till now, including at prestigious shows like Lakshmikant Pyarelal Night, Khayyam Night etc. And she has sung with great artists such as Suresh Wadkar and Shridhar Phadke.
Dr Joshi has travelled across the world for lecture demonstrations on the ‘Aesthetics of Light Music’ and her repertoire includes:
• Amarlata – elaborating Lataji’s Gayaki
• Saahirnaama- explaining Saahir Ludhiyanvi’s works with musical context, and
• Yaad na jaye - explaining Shailendra’s film lyrics
Mrudula ji is a regular performer on Doordarshan , Z Marathi, ABP Majha, and All India radio. She has received many awards like Chaturang Pratishthan Puraskar, Abhijaat kala Gaurav Puraskar and Swaranand Puraskar. She has also given playback for numerous Marathi and regional films. She has also sung vocal classical Alaps for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas.
In her book Rahein na Rahein Hum she has shared her insights on some of the great composers of Hindi Film music such as S.D.Burman, C Ramchandra, Roshan, Khayyam, Jaidev, and many more.
She is currently working as Assistant Professor in Mumbai University Music Department.
