Savita Raje

Introduction

Savita Raje is an Architect with specialization in Landscape Architecture. She has been teaching for the last 34 years at the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal, including 4 years as Professor at the School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal. She was the UNESCO Expert for heritage issues of Madhya Pradesh (2004-2009) and was invited as Trainer cum Resource Person for the Indian Mayors Study Tour to France in 2008. She has been a jury member for the Post Graduate Program in Architecture at the School of Architecture, Paris- Belleville, France ( 2002-2008) and is a Member of the Scientific Committee of Mediterranean Design Association, Italy. She is the founder of the Master of Landscape Architecture at School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal and also started M.Arch ( Conservation) at SPA Bhopal during her tenure as Head of Department of Architecture. She is the President of ‘LIVING HERITAGE ALLIANCE’, and the Honorary Chairperson of the ISOLA ( Indian Society of Landscape Architects) Madhya Pradesh Chapter. She has conducted five international workshops in association with Indian and French Partners. She has organized exhibitions on the Waterworks of Rajasthan in collaboration with Polytecnico di Bari, Italy and Indira Gandhi National Museum of Mankind ( IGRMS) at Jaipur and Bhopal; the Living Architectural and landscape heritage of Bhopal in collaboration with School of Architecture, Paris Belleville, IGRMS, MP Tourism and French Embassy at the India International Centre, New Delhi, Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris, School of Architecture, Versailles and for UNESCO Biennale at Hyderabad. She is one of the co-authors of the “ INTBAU Venice Declaration, 8-1-07” and has authored the Chapter titled, “ The Essence of Built Heritage through the Concept of Total Experience”, for the book “Venice Charter Revisited: Modernism, Conservation and Tradition in the 21st Century” (Cambridge Scholars Publication). She was the issue editor of for the theme “ Historic Urban Landscapes”, international journal “ SPANDREL”. She has been invited to deliver special lectures at prestigious Indian and Italian institutes , including heritage education for the Trainee IAS and IPS Officers. She is a member/ expert in many Central Government committees, including Archaeological Survey of India.
