Dr. Uday S. Kulkarni has authored several non-fiction booksdealing with eighteenth century Indian history over the lastfourteen years, namely, ‘Solstice at Panipat’, ‘The Era ofBajirao’, ‘Bakhar of Panipat’, ‘The Extraordinary Epoch ofNanasaheb Peshwa’, ‘The Maratha Century’ and ‘The Masteryof Hindustan: Triumphs & Travails of Madhav rao Peshwa’– all of which cover the period from the late seventeenth centuryonwards. He has also authored a richly illustrated book based on the work of the Scottish artist James Wales has examinedwestern India of late eighteenth century – through the eyes of this painter – in ‘James Wales: Artist & Antiquarian in the time of Peshwa Sawai Madhav rao’. Four of his books have beenvtranslated into Marathi by Vijay Bapaye. The present work takes the story forward. ‘Raghoba’ is a standalone book about the tragic events in the heart of Maratha power. With manyunpublished documents and maps being printed for the firsttime, it would satisfy the lay and the academic reader.
Dr. Kulkarni is a trained Surgeon. He has served in the Indian Armed Forces and proceeded on voluntary retirement in the rank of Surgeon Commander. He has received many awards for hiswork on Maratha and Indian history. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. He works and lives in Pune with his family.
