Neeru Misra

Introduction

Prof. Neeru Misra is currently Academic Advisor, BL Institute of Indology, Delhi.
She was Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs.

Teaching:

  • She was Honorary Professor and Chair on Lord Buddha and Cultural Heritage Studies, Dr. BR Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Mhow, Indore
  • Head of the Department of Museology on prestigious Maulana Azad Chair at National Museum Institute, Delhi
  • Visiting Professor at Manipur Culture University, Imphal. 
  • Taught at VES College, SNDT University, Mumbai, and 
  • National Project Coordinator with UNDP for over a decade. 

Fellowships/ Awards:

  • Fellowship on Women’s Leadership program, Bangkok,
  • Tagore National Research Scholarship, Ministry of Culture, 
  • Fellowship, Cultural Heritage Institute South Asia Program, at Smithsonian Institutions, and Museums, Washington DC and University of Wisconsin at Madison, (sponsored by the US Government.)

Publications:

  • Over 100 papers, articles, talks and presentations on various topics.
  • 9 books to her credit on cultural heritage and art history, including a monograph on Alwar school of paintings entitled Splendours of Rajasthan Paintings: Gulistan of Sheikh Sa’adi based on original 18 th century manuscript, 
  • Krishna in Indian Art based on manuscript on Bhagwat Purana from National Museum collection, and 
  • A monograph on UNESCO World Heritage site Humayun’s Tomb. 
  • Into Thai Cultural Relations and Mapping Connections, two separate volumes on proceedings of the International Conference on Buddhism
  • Indo and Kazakhstan: Silk Road Synergy
  • Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Property 
  • Her forthcoming book includes a study of the Dhola Maru Folk Art Traditions from Inception to Present Times. 

Exhibitions:

  • Curated many exhibitions in India and abroad and has prepared several catalogues. She has visited most of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and leading museums. 

Other important achievements:

  • Associated with academic programs of several Universities in India and abroad and has been the Special Invitee to the First Bali World Culture Forum, 2011.
  • Fellow of Royal Asiatic Society, London and Ireland. 
  • Advisor at Ojas Art Gallery, Delhi and Advisor, Sarvahitey, an NGO.
  • Member of several professional and academic bodies.
  • Prof. Misra obtained her Doctorate from Allahabad University.
