About
Shikha Biswas Vohra was born in 1946 to legendary maestro Anil Biswas and his actress-wife Ashalata. After doing her matriculation from the prestigious Bombay Scottish High School, she graduated in English Honours from Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi, where she took active part in plays and was the President of the Dramatic Society for two years running.
She did freelance journalism for Times of India, Indian Express and Navbharat Times and contributed articles to Rashtriya Sahara English magazine, mainly profiling personalities. In her term as an Air Force wife, she organized many cultural events. After her husband’s retirement, she established a music organization named Sangeet Smriti in the capital, in memory of her late father. Sangeet Smriti has been actively organizing events since 2004, wherein legendary personalities of Indian cinema are celebrated through musical presentations of the golden era, and has felicitated legends like Ameen Sayani, Music-Director Ravi, singers Mubarak Begum and Shailendra Singh, the actor Tanuja and popular villain Ranjeet, and several musicians for their contribution to Indian films.
She has also featured in radio and television shows as a film music expert.
In 2013, she published her first book, The Lure of Old Tunes, to celebrate the centenary of Indian cinema. It is a fictional tale set against the background of the cinema of the 30s and 40s. Six years later, S.O.L.O, a sequel to the story followed, with the second generation, depicting the development of cinema of the fifties and sixties. On account of her growing up within the close confines of the film industry as well as association with many film personalities, she has tinctured both stories with her observations of this fascinating world and its characters. Both books borrow metaphors and stereotypes from Hindi cinema, illustrating the instability of cinematic success, its magnetic attraction and also vindicating its unsavoury reputation.
