Vishakha Rajurkar Raj is a postgraduate in Mass Communication from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi, and Makhanlal Chaturvedi University, Bhopal. She is trained in the Dhrupad style of Indian classical music under the guidance of the Gundecha Brothers. She is actively involved in theatre performances for nearly two years under the direction of Shri Alok Chatterjee and since 2014, actively associated with the Vihan Kala Group under the mentorship of Shri Saurabh Anant.
She has experience in cultural journalism and photography with the English daily Hindustan Times and DB Post. Worked as a casual announcer with Akashvani (All India Radio), Bhopal, Vividh Bharati. Awarded an M.Phil. in 2017 from Makhanlal Chaturvedi University, Bhopal, on the topic “Communication in Theatre in the Context of Rasa Theory.”
Published a poetry collection titled “Baaton Ke Chitra” and an edited research volume “Indian Culture of History and Communication.” Poems published in the joint poetry anthology “Kavi-Saptak.” Poems and short stories have appeared in several magazines, and research papers have been published in reputed academic journals.
Has teaching experience at Rabindranath Tagore University and Makhanlal Chaturvedi University. Honoured with the ‘Udbhata Samman’ (Academic Field) in 2022 by the Public Relations Society of India, Bhopal. Received the ‘Begum Khurshid Sikandar Bakht Award’ in the field of literature in 2024.
Awarded a PhD from Central University of Jharkhand (Ranchi) on the topic “Communication Perspective in Contemporary Indian Theatre: With Special Reference to Bharata Muni’s Natyashastra.” Actively associated as an executive member of the Dushyant Kumar Memorial Manuscript Museum. Convenor of the Bhopal unit of Vanmali Srijan Peeth.
Currently serving as Head of the Department, School of Media and Journalism, Scope Global Skills University.
