Aly Rashid

Introduction

Aly is the Director and CEO of Jehan Numa Wilderness. He is a trained naturalist, conservationist and author of the first coffee table book on Satpura titled, Tales from the Bush, A peek into the world of Saptura. Aly’s passion for wildlife inspired him to work with his family to set up and run Reni Pani Jungle Lodge, one of the finest wilderness lodges in India. At Reni Pani, Aly has curated and built on the wildlife and guiding experience since its inception and in this time his passion for wildlife has been instilled in the ethos of the lodge and its people. His deep involvement with Satpura since his childhood has been a motivation to protect and conserve wildlife in this landscape. In line with this deep attachment, Aly and the team at Reni Pani have identified another location at the far south of the tiger reserve in Bori Sanctuary to set up a second wildlife lodge, called Bori Safari Lodge. Although the Bori Sanctuary has the distinguished accolade of being the oldest protected area in the country, in terms of tourism it is still very raw and upcoming adding to the element of adventure and discovery. This sanctuary also happens to be Aly’s first wildlife destination a long time ago and since then he has gotten to know it very intimately. Among other wildlife and CSR initiatives that Aly has undertaken are the ongoing camera trap studies in the reserve forest area outside the park that revealed breeding population of several large carnivores like leopards, wild dogs and sloth bear and also the presence of a young male tiger. His passion for research and conservation has also taken him to Panna National Park where he worked with renowned small cat expert and scientist Shekhar Kolipaka for the Caracal Research and Conservation Project in 2014. Jehan Numa Wilderness works closely with the forest department on conservation projects and at Reni Pani village the lodge has also adopted a primary school to ensure a better standard of education for the neighboring community. Aly is also involved in leading wildlife expeditions both within India and abroad.
