Introduction

Probal DasGupta is an acclaimed author, business leader and army veteran. His book 'General Brasstacks: The Sundarji Story' (Penguin Random House) is set to be released in January 2026.

An author of the bestselling books ‘Watershed 1967: India’s Forgotten Victory Over China’ and ‘Camouflaged: Forgotten Stories from Battlefields’, Probal holds a master’s degree from Columbia University in New York (USA), where he was a Braun-Myers Fellow, Tata Scholar and RD Sethna Scholar. 

His book Watershed 1967 featured on prestigious lists in BBC, Asian Age, Hindustan Times, Times of India, The Hindu and featured on BBC and Discovery channel. The book was chosen as Hindustan Times’ Book of the Week. His second book, Camouflaged: Forgotten Stories from Battlefields, narrates a century of untold stories of Indian soldiers. The book was reviewed extensively and well received. It was Deccan Herald’s book of the week. Probal has been interviewed on all major media platforms. He writes a column for FirstPost and has written for The Times of India, Hindu, ThePrint, Indian Express, Mint and others.

Probal served with 11 Gorkha Rifles and completed tenures in counter insurgency and complex combat roles. In a corporate role, he helmed multinational consulting firms in India and South Asia. He now runs his own advisory firm in Mumbai advising clients on investment and reputation risks.
