About
Virginie Bouyx is a French writer and lawyer born in Bordeaux. She used to live in China and Russia and has been living in Chennai for a few months.
She is the author of two short stories collections at Gallimard - “Les fleuristes” (Florists) and “Villes chinoises” (Chinese cities) which was awarded the Prix François-Mauriac de l'Académie française – and of a novel “La Varangue” (The Varangue) at Le Pommier.
Her work explores themes of loss, places, uprooting, nature and environmental threat, power of art and beauty, and she is interested in narrative medicine. Her writing is characterized by its observational style, combining melancholy and a bit of humour and absurd. While most of her short stories describe everyday life and fall within a realistic perspective, her novel is closer to magical realism.
